Being my favorite dress watch, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227r debuted in 2013. The original Calatrava was first launched in 1932 under the ref. 96. This watch is great for people who want a watch to be not only valuable when it comes to cash, but also a watch rich with sentimental value.

Thanks to its officer style caseback, the calatrava gives you the gold that you would get from a solid back and the beauty of a sapphire caseback where you can admire the movement. Patek Philippe gives you the option to engrave anything you’d want on the gold part of the caseback.

Speaking of the caseback, that hidden hinge mechanism alone is worth admiration! Patek Philippe has done a great job making the operation of the hinge to open the back easy and smooth, and it stays where ever you stop it. Honestly, this is a very photogenic watch.

The 5227r is water resistant up to 30 meters, but I would not recommend putting it in water so the glossy alligator leather strap doesn’t get damaged. The watch works well with most wrists with its 39mm in diameter, 9,24mm in hight rose gold case. The dial is ivory lacquered giving it a creamy look. The hands and hour markers all are made from rose gold.

This piece of beauty uses the Caliber 324 S C, which features a date display at 3 o’clock, as well as a center sweeping seconds hand that ticks 8 times per second (4 Hz) with its Gyromax balance and its Spiromax balance spring. It is also Patek Philippe sealed, which means its accuracy is +3/-2 seconds per day. It has a power reserve no less than 35 hours and no more than 45 hours.

Enough about the movement. This watch speaks for its self. It is the true embodiment of the quote “Beautiful things don’t ask for attention”. What do you think of the Calatrava 5227r? If you own one, please do share your story about it down below!
