Many people nowadays would never understand why some watches are more expensive than others as long as they all tell the time. But what they don’t put into consideration is the craftsmanship and hard work put into making that certain watch. Here in this article, we discuss why do Rolex watches cost what they do.

First, the materials that Rolex use aren’t as cheap as the one used in low-end watches, Rolex uses 904L steel, compared to what luxury brands usually use which is 316L steel. Also, Rolex makes and mines their own materials. All the way from steel to gold and diamonds, Rolex gets it all by themselves.

The craftsmanship, this should be very obvious and self-explanatory. If a watch is made by hand, its for sure is going to cost more than something made with a soulless machine. I’m not saying Rolexes are 100% hand made, however ALMOST all of their polishing and finishing is done by hand, which adds tremendously to their value. They are also put together by hand.

The time it takes for a Rolex to be made and get tested and sent to a retailer is said to be an entire year. They also get it officially certified by the Swiss for accuracy, which explains the “Superlative chronometer – officially certified” on each model produced. That on its own adds loads of value to the watch.

The heritage and history of Rolex is also extremely important to their value. Hans Wilsdorf’s story (creator of Rolex) is quite interesting, how he was working for someone else then decided to open a brand himself and how he made sure a certain percentage of the company’s income goes to charity. Also, Rolex made the first wrist watch for men,  value added.

Combine all the above, give it a good look, research it further and learn about it and then maybe you’ll come to the conclusion where Rolexes are actually inexpensive for what they offer!
